2006年，日本皇室终于将年事已高的日产PRINCE Royal换成了丰田Century Royal。值得一提的是，日本皇室所使用的日产PRINCE Royal是上世纪70到80年代生产的，已经使用了近四十多年，之前日产公司就多次专门发函给宫内厅要求报废这些车辆。

而现役的御用车丰田Century Royal，是丰田公司在丰田世纪的基础上专门为皇室定做的Royal皇家版，目前只生产了四辆。熟悉汽车的朋友可能早就知道，丰田世纪（Century）是丰田旗下最顶级的汽车，定位比雷克萨斯LS更高，搭载了丰田车上极少使用的V12发动机。该车型始创于1967年，是为了纪念丰田汽车始创人丰田佐吉诞辰100周年而研制的，有“日本劳斯莱斯”之称。
